STUDENT INFORMATION, TERMS & CONDITIONS OF ENROLMENT FOR ATTENDING THE NSW BOATING COLLEGE

These Terms and Conditions form part of our registration and accreditation with VETAB & NSW Maritime.

 

  • Students are only enrolled for training with the college when fees have been paid in advance.
    Payment can be made online by credit card (Visa and MasterCard). Payments made via credit card incur a 1% (incl GST) payment processing fee. If you wish to pay by internet to our bank account please let us know. Cash payments are not normally accepted. Payment options can be discussed by calling us on 1300 723 112.
  • NSW Boating College reserves the right, to change and/or re-schedule venue locations, dates and times at anytime.Should this situation occur changes will be posted to the website and if students are affected they will be notified immediately.
  • Prices - NSW Boating College reserves the right to change prices without prior notice. All prices include Goods and Service Tax (GST) at the current rate of 10% in Australia.
  • The new boat licence tests require students to be well prepared before attending a safe boating seminar.
  • It is essential that the individual has studied and understood the current NSW Maritime Boating Handbook prior to attending the training.
  • Many but not all questions will be dealt with in the tuition time by the college trainer. - Book Early
  • Refunds are not generally available; however, payment is transferable providing advice is given prior to 7 days before the scheduled training or forfeit may occur.
  • Students must be able to read and write English fluently and advise of any health condition, eyesight, hearing, learning disability or disability that may compromise training.
  • Students have the right of appeal, complaint or grievance and a student complaint form is available in the student information.
  • Attendance on time, acceptable behaviour and standard of dress is required at the venues and on the vessel.
  • All NSW Boating College course material is protected by copyright and is not able to be copied or utilised by you or any other party without permission from NSW Boating College.This applies to the complete course materials or any part of them.
  • Students are warned before going out in the boat that any variance from trainer instructions, negligence, unsafe or dangerous practice on the vessel may immediately end the session with the student forfeiting moneys paid.
  • Students private details as recorded by the college for the purpose of providing training, identification and boat licencing will not be disclosed to any third party other than where required by law.
  • By law a person must be 16 years of age to obtain a NSW general (power-boat) licence. A general young adult licence can be obtained by doing this training if they are 12 – 16 years of age together with parent/guardian and full I.D.- both being paying students. One parent/guardian with multiple children is acceptable.
  • Upon successful completion of the training the student will be given a Certificate of Satisfactory Course Completion which can be presented to any NSW Maritime Customer Service Centre for verification and upon payment of the licence fee NSW Maritime will issue a licence. This must be achieved within 6 months of the training otherwise the student will have to re-sit the boat licence test.
  • Students who fail the NSW Maritime Boat Licence Test may re-sit the test with the college by re-booking into a subsequent 'seminar-test' - fees apply.
  • An oral test of the NSW Maritime Boat Licence Test is available by arrangement - fees apply.
  • Students may have access to their records on application to the college principal. This usually happens where a statement of attainment is lost. Students are advised that an administrative charge of $30 will be made for providing copies of their records - regardless of how many pages of information that amounts to at any one request.
RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING & QUALIFICATIONS FROM ANOTHER RTO
  • As a general rule, NSW Maritime view the NSW general boat licence (recreational) as a primary qualification and therefore recognition of prior learning and recognition of qualifications from another RTO does not apply. NSW Maritime will recognise current general boat licences issued in other states of Australia.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS FOR ONLINE STUDENTS

  • Students have 30 days to complete the study from the first date of payment/access. On each subsequent access the program will advise you of how many days left for you to complete the study
  • If you do not complete the study within 30 days you have not met the conditions of completing the study and you will not be able to sit the boat licence test.
  • Do not let others have access to your study. They may complete the exercises and so prevent you from completing the study.
  • You cannot proceed to the next section of the study until all questions in the exercise have been answered correctly. You can review your work so far anytime within the 30 days.
  • There are over 100 questions in this study further questions are at www.maritime.nsw.gov.au site.
  • You are required to book the test with this college - within 14 days of completing the study - the earlier the better while information is fresh
  • Purchase of an NBC Online learning course allows the purchaser (an individual) access to the online course for a period of 30 days. Only the original individual purchaser is granted rights to access the online course, access rights are not transferable to
    any other party and sharing of user names and passwords is prohibited.
  • NSW Boating College reserves the right to immediately terminate access to online courses if it believes that more than one user is accessing an online learning course using the same log-in details.
