1. SMALL BOAT HANDLING - EXTENDED TRAINING

    On the water practical and assessment after completing training for up to 2 hours - usually next morning.
  • Learn docking, anchoring and boat handling skills in your waterway at your marina, mooring or ramp.

NSW Maritime will implement Compulsory Seminars effective 1st October 2006; however, it is fair to say that the failure rate has increased for applicants attending a boat licence test only since last year.

You will receive a 'statement of attainment' and a completed 'application for a boat licence' if you are successful which when presented personally will be exchanged for a boat licence at NSW Maritime/RTA offices on payment of the licence fee - an eyesight test maybe required

This College is required to provide a high standard of training in order to achieve accreditation with NSW Maritime and NSW VETAB. Other training to obtain a boat license is available but does not meet the standards set by NMSC which are illustrated by competencies and training package units that this RTO offers:

SROYAC001B - Comply with maritime rules and regulations

MEM50.8EA - Carry out trip preparation and planning

MEM50.9AA - Safely operate a mechanically powered recreational boat

MEM50.10EA - Respond to boating emergencies and incidents

The training incorporates additional elements to 'complete all four units' of competency as required by NSW VETAB and includes:

  • Mooring and berthing equipment
  • Anchoring - Berthing - Mooring - Beaching
  • Manoeuvre and handle boat safely
  • Training and briefing crew/passengers
  • Raising alarm
  • Assisting others
  • Handling a range of emergencies
