It is illegal to train people for a fee on a recreational vessel who are not licenced. GROUP BOOKINGS - SCHOOLS & CLUBSGroup bookings for any training with the College are welcome at any venue - call and discuss what you have in mind. We have developed a program for High Schools in conjunctions with the ONLINE STUDY where the boat licence test can be held at the school. |

Course content is based upon the Australian Maritime Training Package competencies for Commercial Skippers and is designed for Motor Cruiser enthusiasts. NSW GOVERNMENT - Inland WatersThe NSW Boating College has compiled this course especially for those employed by the NSW Government who are required to operate a power-boat in Inland Waters. The course meets and exceeds Public Safety Standards and is based upon the College's Boat Licence Training in addition to material from the SES Flood and Inland Waterways Rescue Boat Operations Course. Swift Water training could involve a separate day's practical where required. 2 or 3 day Courses can be held throughout the State on Inland Lakes and Dams and were designed for the NSW Department of Infrastructure & State Water.

WHAT LICENCE CAN I GET NOW ?A recreational general boat licence allows you to Skipper any recreational power-driven vessel of any size except a Jet Ski or PWC which requires a special licence only available from NSW Maritime. Some people will want to obtain more training to feel more competent on the water and this can be achieved privately, in groups or by attending commercial licence training.
COMMERCIAL QUALIFICATIONSYou may choose to complete a commercial certificate or attend training for selected or all competency based subjects that you are interested in, e.g.

If you are considering a career in NSW then you will need qualifying verifiable sea time in vessels of 5m or larger - the information pack available from NSW Maritime will explain the details.

You cannot work on a commercial vessel in NSW without some basic training, be medically fit, pass an eyesight test and be of minimum age.
MARINE RADIO OPERATORMost of the Volunteer Marine Rescue groups offer training in the use of a Marine Radio. A licence can be obtained by attending training followed by an ACA examination e.g. to use VHF.
