What you will learn
  • PWC rules and regulations
  • PWC operating basics
  • PWC trip planning and responsible use
  • PWC restrictions and towing rules
  • Distances off and speed restrictions
  • PWC terms
Pre-requisites

To obtain a General or Young Adult PWC licence you need to have first obtained your General or Young Adult Power Boat Licence. A Young Adult (12-16 year old) PWC licence holder is subject to the same restrictions as a Young Adult General Licence. The minimum age to obtain a General PWC Licence is 16.

There is currently no requirement by NSW Maritime for PWC Upgrade applicants to undergo any practical as they have gained that competency with the boat licence practical boating session.

What to bring
  • Pen
  • At the course you will need to show proof of identity (driver's licence, passport, birth certificate) and bring two passport photos for the PWC licence
Training and assessment

The course, test and practical are derived from training competencies of the SIS10 Sport, Fitness and Recreation Industry Training Package.

The units of competency are:

SISOPWC201A - Select and maintain a PWC
SISOPWC202A - Demonstrate basic skills to ride a PWC in controlled conditions

Outcome

On successful completion of the PWC licence test students will receive a Certificate of Satisfactory Course Completion. The Certificate of Satisfactory Course Completion must be presented at a Maritime Service Centre, before NSW Maritime will issue the PWC licence, along with proof of ID and then on payment of the licence fee the licence will be issued.

PWC licences are issued as plastic photo cards and will expire if not renewed. PWC licences are available for either 12 months or three years.

Special needs

Students who have special needs such as significant problems with understanding, reading or writing English are advised to contact a local NSW Maritime centre, where interpretative services can be made available.
