A combination Boat and PWC theory only, this course option is ideal for students wishing to complete a theory only session.

Duration

6 hours face-to-face and pre-learning.

  • Boat and PWC rules and regulations
  • PWC restrictions, towing rules and PWC etiquette
  • Distances off and speed restrictions
  • Sound signal, marine radio and distress signals knots
  • Boating and PWC terms
  • Emergency procedures
  • Boating and PWC operatiing risks Regulation, safety and duty of care
  • The International Collision Regulations (ColRegs)
  • Local knowledge
  • Weather information
  • Towing people - waterskier, wakeboarders
Pre-requisites

Students must successfully complete the boat licence test before the PWC licence licence can be attempted.

What to bring

At the course you will need to show proof of identity (driver's licence, passport, birth certificate) and bring two passport photos for the PWC licence.

Training and assessment

The course and tests are derived from training competencies of the SIS10 Sport, Fitness and Recreation Industry Training Package.

The units of cometency are:

  • SROYAC001B - Comply with maritime rules and regulations
  • SISOPWC201A - Select and maintain a PWC
  • SISOPWC202A - Demonstrate basic skills to ride a PWC in controlled conditions
Outcome

Students will receive a Certificate of Satisfactory Course Completion.The Certificate of Satisfactory Course Completion must be presented at a Maritime Service Centre before NSW Maritime will issue a boat and PWC licence, along with proof of ID. On payment of the licence fees ,the licences will be issued.

Special needs

Students who have special needs such as significant problems with understanding, reading or writing English are advised to contact a local NSW Maritime centre, where interpretative services can be made available.
