NOTE: Practical sessions apply to NSW General Boat Licence applicants only. Practical experience sessions for the PWC Licence are currently not required in New South Wales.

Snapshot of the day
An early start at one of our venues with the boat/PWC theory session and licence tests, everything you need to complete the theory session is supplied. Morning tea and generous lunches are available at all our venues for reasonable prices. It is also a good idea to pack a lunch. Break times are flexible, subject to student numbers on the day. Some students bring their own packed lunch.
The boat licence test must be completed before the PWC licence test can be attempted.
Once the theory, tests and lunch break are over, then it's off to the boat ramp to complete the practical session. Boat ramps used by the College are selected for their facilities and close proximity to theory venues.

Duration
8 hours face-to-face and pre-learning.
Pre-requisites
Participants must complete the course readings prior to attending the training.
What to bring
- Pen
- 1 form of photo ID - Drivers licence, Passport, Photo ID Card, Student Card
- Appropriate apparel for the practical boat session - hat, suncreen, runners NO THONGS, jacket suited for weather conditions of the the day
- Packed lunch (optional)
Training and assessment
The boat and PWC course and test are derived from training competencies of the SIS10 Sport, Fitness and Recreation Industry Training Package.
The units of competency are:
SISOPWC201A - Select and maintain a PWC
SISOPWC202A - Demonstrate basic skills to ride a PWC in controlled conditions
SROYAC001B - Comply with maritime rules and regulations
MEM50008B - Carry out trip preparation and planning
MEM50009B - Safely operate a mechanically powered recreational boat
MEM50010B - Respond to boating emergencies and incidents
Course Outcome
On successful completion of the course theory session, boat licence test and practical on-water assessment students will receive a Certificate of Satisfactory Course Completion. The Certificate of Satisfactory Course Completion must be presented at a Maritime Service Centre before NSW Maritime will issue a boat licence along with proof of ID and on payment of the licence fee the licence will be issued.
Special needs
Students who have special needs such as significant problems with understanding, reading or writing English are advised to contact a local NSW Maritime centre, where interpretative services can be made available.
